“Tsuchiyu” is said to be a town name transformed from “tsukiyu” (hot spring gushing from the ground which a man thrusted).
There are two legends told about the origin of this name Tuchiyu(Tukiyu).

One tells that Prince Shotoku revealed that the “tsukiyu” of Iwashiro Province had healing powers, while another tells that it came to be called “tsukiyu” because in the age of gods, a god Oanamuchi no Mikoto thrust his spear into the banks of the Arakawa River causing hot water to spring forth.

The hotel’s spring source is a mixed hot spring combining our private hydrogen carbonate spring and Tsuchiyu Onsen’s shared spring source (a simple hot spring). New Ougiya’s hydrogen carbonate spring is rich in the moisturizing ingredient, metasilicic acid, which moisten skin attractive after your bath, while the carbonic acid warms the body from the inside out.
There are a total of eight baths at the hotel, each with its own style.
